Things to Do on Pawleys Island in the Spring

Outdoor Activities

South Carolina’s mild spring weather is perfect for thawing out from the harsh winter. From March to May, the average high ranges from 67 – 82 degrees, while the average low ranges from 45 – 61 degrees. We recommend packing comfortable clothes that you can layer and a light jacket for cooler days. You’ll have ample opportunity to get outside, too. Check out some of our favorite recreational activities below.

Visit Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is the perfect place to spend a warm spring day. Stroll through the lush botanical gardens and admire new exhibits, majestic live oaks, and blooming flowers like dogwoods, daffodils, orchids, and azaleas. Or, attend upcoming events like the Diggin’ It Spring Garden Festival in March. You’ll also want to explore the world-class sculpture garden while you’re there.

Stroll the Shoreline

If you’re looking for cheap things to do, the spring is a great time to enjoy long walks on the beach. You’ll find fewer people here during the off-season which means you can stroll, bike, or jog in peace. By April, water temperatures are often warm enough for a swim, and an afternoon of sunbathing provides a welcome dose of Vitamin D.

Watch for Wildlife

In the spring, large flocks of migratory birds can be seen all over the South Carolina Lowcountry. It’s also common to spot pods of dolphins during this time of year. Keep your eyes peeled for other native wildlife like lizards, frogs, and otters while exploring the great outdoors.

Shopping & Dining

After a few hours of recreation, head to the Hammock Shops Village and indulge in a little retail therapy. You’ll find high-end clothing boutiques, art galleries, a general store, and so much more. It’s a great place to pick up local goodies and souvenirs!
Next, swing by Local Gastropub for food and drinks in a rustic setting. This popular eatery uses locally sourced ingredients and supports charities and events within the community.
